Momma Bird

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Two springs ago, we had the pleasure of watching a robin build her new home on the arbor over our deck. She proceeded to lay her eggs and then nest them, all while putting up with us curious on-lookers.

***My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing collection***

We were limited a bit by our point and shoot camera and its zoom capabilities, but we were nevertheless able to get a few good shots.  We had to pull out  a ladder in order to get a look at the eggs---and, of course,  wait for momma to vacate her nest long enough.
Unfortunately, this story has a sad ending.  We probably stressed momma bird too much with our spying because the very next day after the baby birds hatched, the nest was vacated.  Completely empty.  We don't know what she did with the babies...maybe they were never viable.  Maybe she felt the home was not safe for growing her family.  In any case, she took her babies and left.  They surely could not have survived being moved. We figure that she probably just disposed of them.  Sad...and probably our fault.  I guess we learned just how fragile mother nature can be...even when it seems like you are doing something harmless.

I created this layout using sketch #21 from The Paper Bakery.  It was created by the talented Juliana Michaels.  I followed the basic design pretty closely...minor tweaks to photo and paper placement.  I also moved the journaling to a tag behind the larger piece of patterned paper.

Scrap Our Stash is having a birthday Stash-A-Thon the entire month of March. One of the challenges was to create a layout using doilies.  I incorporated them as the circle elements that were on the sketch I mentioned above.

Paper Issues current theme is Tip-toe through the Tulips.  I went with the idea of things you see in the spring...which this event definitely qualifies for!

If you would like to take part in these challenges yourself, I highly encourage you to check them out!
